The 28-hour rule
With the comprehensive permission (包括許可) for activities other than those permitted, students and dependents may work up to 28 hours a week in total, across every job, counted from any day of the week. During the school's official long holidays students may work up to 8 hours a day.
Work at businesses regulated as adult entertainment (bars or clubs with hostess service, pachinko, mahjong parlours and similar) is not allowed, even for cleaning or dishwashing. Working over the limit can lead to refused renewals or deportation.
