The amended Immigration Control Act enforcement order (effective 1 October 2026) replaced the flat ¥6,000 fee with fees based on the period of stay granted. The fee is paid only if permission is granted: by revenue stamp (収入印紙) at the counter, or by convenience-store or bank payment for online applications.
Applications accepted by 30 September 2026 pay the old fee even if the decision comes later.
